Why shops are changing their boards

Karnataka amended Section 17(6) of the Kannada Language Comprehensive Development Act, 2022 in February 2024 (in force from 12 March 2024). The amended text reads:

"The name boards of Commercial, Industrial and Business Undertakings, Trusts, Counseling centers, Hospitals, Laboratories, Amusement Centers, Hotels etc., functioning with the approval and sanction of the Government or Local Authorities, shall ensure that their name board displays 60% in Kannada language and Kannada shall be displayed in the upper half of the name board."

Bengaluru's civic body has since run signboard drives, issued notices and linked trade licence renewals to Kannada boards. We design every board to this 60% Kannada guideline. We are a design and print studio, not lawyers: for questions about your own licence, ask your ward office.

Who writes the Kannada?

We translate or transliterate your name and line, then a native Kannada speaker checks every board before printing. You see and approve the final text.

Is this legal advice?

No. We design to the 60% Kannada guideline quoted above. We don't give legal advice or guarantee any outcome with an authority.

Where do you deliver?

Anywhere within Bengaluru city limits. Outside Bengaluru: ask us first.

How do I pay?

Through Razorpay's secure hosted page (UPI, cards, netbanking, wallets). We never see your card details. The charge appears under our operating company, Upsurge Labs LLP.

Terms, refunds and privacy

Refunds. Full refund if you cancel any time before you approve the final design. After printing: if there is a spelling or print mistake on our side, we reprint free; if we miss the 48-hour delivery window after your approval, you may cancel for a full refund. Approved boards printed as approved are custom-made and not refundable. Refunds go back to the original payment method within 5-7 working days.

Terms. Prices include design, one round of print-ready edits, printing and delivery within Bengaluru. Extra revision rounds are free before printing. Colours on screen may differ slightly from print. You confirm you have the right to use the name and logo you send us. We don't install at heights.

Privacy. We keep only what we need to make and deliver your board (shop name, contact number, delivery address, your photo) and use it for nothing else. Ask us to delete it any time.
